Persephone does not believe her, but just then, the party who had left the dahl to hunt Grin the Brown return. In Dahl Rhen, Persephone meets Suri who has come with Minna from forest to village in order to warn of impending doom. Meryl flees while Raithe and Malcolm bury Herkimer. Malcolm saves Raithe by bludgeoning Shegon in the back of the head with a rock. Herkimer retaliates and is slain by Shegon. After Herkimer refuses to give up his sword, Shegon attacks and takes it. They are caught by the Fhrey, Shegon, and his two servants, Malcolm and Meryl. ![]() Raithe and his father, Herkimer cross over to the north side of the Bern river to hunt, which is forbidden. Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. ![]() But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever.
